Question:
The point of the verse
The fornicating woman and the fornicating man...الزَّانِيَةُ وَالزَّانِي..
is the prohibition of accepting intercession...

Answer:
Because intercession is an act of compassion, {
taken by pity for themتَأْخُذْكُمْ بِهِمَا رَأْفَة
[An-Nur 24:2]
} meaning in the case of leaving the prescribed punishment, one intercedes in it, or the punishment is not carried out except for a weak reason that is not a legal punishment, or it is concealed from the people... this is a type of compassion.
Q: Where is the evidence in the verse?
The Shaykh:
do not be taken by pity for themوَلَا تَأْخُذْكُمْ بِهِمَا رَأْفَة
[Al-Nur:2] The one who intercedes is overcome by compassion.
