The Meaning of the Hadith "There is no envy except in two matters..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a person envies someone in matters other than these two characteristics (mentioned in the hadith "There is no envy except in two matters...": the Qur'an and wisdom), what is the ruling?

Answer:
Envy in the form of admiration is permissible, such as envying someone for following funeral processions or for performing Hajj frequently; this causes no harm.
The forbidden envy is wishing for the blessing to be removed from the other person. This is the condemned envy about which the Exalted and Majestic said:
And from the evil of an envier when he envies."وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
[Surah al-Falaq: 5], where one wishes for the blessing to be removed from his brother.
As for wishing to be like him and striving to be like him, that is all good, whether in the Qur'an, in Hajj, in fasting, in charity, or in other charitable projects.
Q: Is envy a sin?
A: Envy is among the ugliest of evil deeds and among the characteristics of the Jews—may Allah protect us.
