Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a person was on misguidance and then repented: does he bear the sin of those who followed him, even after his repentance?

Answer:
It is hoped that he will be safe, if Allah wills. If he repents, it is hoped that he will be safe, if Allah wills; because repentance wipes out what came before it, and praise be to Allah. And he must clarify his return.
Q: Does the scholarly [knowledge] fall within this?
The Shaykh: If Allah wills, it falls within this.
Q: Who said that he bears the sin even after repentance, the sin of those who followed him; based on the hadith of Ibn Adam that he repented and he bore the sin of those who killed after him?
The Shaykh: It does not appear to me [that he does]. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The one who repents from sin is like one who did not sin.التائب من الذنب كمن لا ذنب له
Sunan Ibn Majah 4250Da’if (Darussalam)
, and repentance wipes out what came before it. As for Ibn Adam, we do not know if he repented or not. Do you have news that he repented?
