Does affiliation with the Salaf imply affiliation with a specific individual and fanaticism toward him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : For example, affiliation with the Salaf does not primarily mean affiliation with a specific individual, but rather affiliation with the Salaf whom our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) praised in His Book, and whose Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praised in his hadith. Especially since the head of the righteous Salaf is a single person to whom a Muslim may affiliate, and this affiliation is valid without any other affiliation to any other person; I mean Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This is because affiliation with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is affiliation with infallibility, unlike affiliation, for example, with Abu Hanifah or other imams; that is not affiliation with infallibility, but rather affiliation with a noble and distinguished scholar, as we mentioned earlier. However, he is still subject to error and is not infallible from it. As for affiliation with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is affiliation with the infallible one, from whom falsehood does not come from before or behind. I said: Affiliation with the righteous Salaf does not mean affiliation with an individual, but rather affiliation with the group whom Allah (Mighty and Majestic) praised in His Book, and which He (peace be upon him) affirmed in his hadith, particularly the famous hadith:
The best people are those living in my generation, and then those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the latter خير الناس قرني ، ثم الذين يلونهم ، ثم الذين يلونهم
Sahih al-Bukhari 3651
. These are the righteous Salaf. If a Muslim affiliates with them, it means he has affiliated with infallibility, and it means he has held fast to the firm rope from which there is no severance, because at its head is the Messenger of Allah (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him).
