Tracing lineage to the grandfather

Fatwa number ( 17999 )
Q: I registered under my grandfather’s name, my father’s father, because my father passed away without leaving any offspring. I subsequently took a job under this name, which is fundamentally incorrect because it omits my father’s name, who is called (H. A. A. S). Therefore, I ask for your guidance: does this incur any sin on my part before Allah the Exalted? I have not cut off or usurped the rights of any of my relatives or brothers, but I ask to be sure. I request your guidance.
A: It is permissible to trace one’s lineage to the grandfather because he is a father; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1688Sahih (Darussalam) with the understanding that 'Abd al-Muttalib
is his grandfather, the father of his father; for he (peace and blessings be upon him) is Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib. However, a Muslim must establish the name of his direct father so that there is no confusion in inheritance or other matters. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
