Is the intended meaning of "al" (family): spouses and descendants?

It is said that the intended meaning of "al" (family) is spouses and descendants, as in the narration of Abu Humayd?

They are included in it, just as the Exalted and Majestic said: [Ghafir: 46], meaning the followers of Pharaoh. So the spouses and descendants are among the "al" (family), and those who are not of them are not included, such as Abu Lahab, Abu Talib, the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mother, and his father; they are not included because they were not among the believers.
