The Ruling on Breastfeeding an Adult

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence, Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Baz (may Allah preserve him and grant him piety).
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
You know, may Allah protect you, the hadith of Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with them both). The mother of Hudhayfah had raised him when he was young, so he considered her like his mother. When the verse of the hijab was revealed, she was required to veil herself from him, and this was difficult for them (Salim, Abu Hudhayfah, and the mother of Hudhayfah). They mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he ordered Salim to drink from the milk of the mother of Hudhayfah, so that he would thereby become her son through breastfeeding. The hadith is in Muslim.
I have reviewed the words of the scholars on this issue in the book (Zad al-Ma'ad), and I found that they are divided into two groups and a middle position: one group holds that the hadith is specific to Salim only, one group holds that the hadith is general for Salim and others, and one group takes a middle position, holding that the hadith is general for Salim and others on the condition that his situation is like the situation of Salim and the mother of Hudhayfah. This is the opinion of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him).
And I, O Shaykh, was raised in my childhood by a woman who is a stranger to me, and it was difficult for her to veil herself from me. I wanted to act according to the saying of Shaykh al-Islam in the issue of Salim, but a group of her relatives opposed me and requested a legal ruling regarding this issue. Therefore, I ask for your guidance on this matter, and may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
And upon you be peace, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, after that:
We see that the hadith of Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah, is specific to Salim—as is the opinion of the majority—due to the authenticity of the hadiths indicating that there is no breastfeeding except within the two years. This is what we issue as a ruling, and I ask Allah to guide everyone to what pleases Him.
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
