A question regarding the ruling on breastfeeding an adult

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A letter from Umm Bilal -Khamis Mushait- says: What is the stronger position regarding the breastfeeding of an adult?

Answer:
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The scholars have differed on whether the breastfeeding of an adult has any effect or not.
The reason for this is that it was reported in an authentic hadith from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Suhailah bint Suhayl to breastfeed Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhayfah, and he was an adult and was a slave in the household of her husband. So when he grew up, she asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for a solution to this matter, so he ordered her to breastfeed him five times. The scholars differed on this, and the correct of the scholars' opinions is that this is specific to Salim and Suhailah bint Suhayl and is not general for the Ummah, as was said by most of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and by a large group of the scholars, and this is the truth; due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The suckling that makes marriage unlawful is that which reaches the intestines (i.e. nourishes the child), and is taken before (two years) time of weaning.لا رضاع إلا ما فتق الأمعاء وكان قبل الفطام
Bulugh al-Maram 8:197
and due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
as fostership is only valid if it takes place in the suckling period (before two years of age).إنما الرضاعة من المجاعة
Sahih al-Bukhari 2647
narrated by the two Shaykhs in the two Sahihs, and due to his saying also (peace and blessings be upon him):
Suckling applies only (to infants) during the first two years (of their life).لا رضاع إلا في الحولين
Bulugh al-Maram 8:198
So these hadiths indicate that breastfeeding is restricted to the two years, and breastfeeding after that has no effect, and this is the truth. And Allah, Exalted and Majestic is He, is the One who grants success.
