Ruling on paying the expiation for an oath in cash

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
My mother owes the expiation for an oath. Is it permissible for me to pay on her behalf the value of feeding ten poor people in Saudi riyals and give it to a charitable organization? And what is the value of the feeding—in the Saudi riyal—if paying it in cash is valid? Please inform us—may Allah reward you.

Answer:
If your mother is dead or alive, and she has permitted you to pay the expiation on her behalf, there is no blame on you for paying it for her, provided that the expiation is food, not cash; because that is what the Noble Qur'an and the pure Sunnah have prescribed. The obligatory amount is half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of the staple food of the country, such as dates or wheat, or something else. Its weight is approximately one and a half kilograms. If you feed them lunch or dinner, or clothe them with a garment that suffices them for prayer, that is sufficient. The garment is a shirt, or a lower garment and a cloak.
