Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to the message from our brother, Riadh bin Dary al-Qadiri from Jeddah. We presented part of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks and says: Is it permissible to pay the expiation for an oath sworn by Allah by giving a sum of money to one or more poor Muslims, instead of feeding ten poor people, and what is the value of this sum?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for the matter: The expiation for an oath has been explicitly stated by Allah in His Noble Book, so no one has the right to contradict the text of the Book of Allah . Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Ma'idah: 89]... the verse.
So Allah clarified the expiation and specified its type; therefore, no one has the right to contradict that. It is not permissible to offer a poor person food, cash, or anything else; rather, it is necessary to provide for ten, as Allah explicitly stated: ten poor people who are given food, the amount being half a sa' for each person, approximately one and a half kilograms, of the staple food of the country, such as dates, rice, wheat, or other staple foods of the country. Or they are invited to a lunch or dinner meal, whether gathered together or separately, until the ten are completed. Or they are clothed, with a garment for each person that suffices them for prayer, such as an izar and a rida' or a shirt. Or a believing slave is freed. If you cannot do all of these, then you must fast for three days.
This is the expiation that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has explicitly stated, and no one has the right to contradict that. Even if... you feed them separately, five today and five tomorrow, four today and six tomorrow, three today and three tomorrow and three the day after, or four, all of this is fine. It is not a condition for this that they gather together. Even if that is distributed between two or three houses, a house with four, a house with four, and a house with two, there is no harm. The point is that it is necessary to have ten in the case of food and clothing. Yes.

Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn. But guard your oaths
