Supplication for the one who gives charity

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Some people who gather around charity that is intended to be distributed to them place their hands on it, and one of them makes a supplication for the one who gave the charity, while the others say "Ameen" in loud voices. What is the ruling on this?

Answer:
This manner is not appropriate because it is a religious innovation (bid'ah). However, making a supplication for the one who gives charity, without placing hands on the money given as charity, and without gathering to raise voices in the manner described, is prescribed (mashru'). This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
and if anyone does you a kindness recompense him, but if you have not the means to do so pray for him until you feel that you have recompensed him.من صنع إليكم معروفًا فكافئوه فإن لم تجدوا ما تكافئوه فادعوا له حتى تروا أنكم قد كافأتموه
Mishkat al-Masabih 1943
It was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i with a sound chain of narration.
