Question:
From Abdulaziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz to the honorable son: A. B. C. May Allah guide him to all good; amen. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings. As for what follows:
I have reviewed your noble letter and understood the questions it contained, which were sent to you by one of your friends in Sierra Leone, along with your request for answers. Here is the text of the questions and their answers:
First question: That when the construction of the mosque is completed, some people claim that it is not permissible to deliver the Friday sermon or perform the obligatory prayer in it until cows or sheep are purchased, then people are invited, the animals are slaughtered, and the attendees are fed. Without this, they claim that the imam of the mosque will die before his appointed time if he prays in it!
Second question: Regarding the permissibility of translating the Friday sermon into a language other than Arabic.
Third question: Regarding the people who gather around the charity intended to be distributed to them, place their hands on it, and one of them makes a supplication for the donor while the others say “Ameen” in loud voices.
First Answer:
All of this has no basis, and believing in it is pure error. It is necessary to disapprove of those who believe in it or do it; because this is a religious innovation, and every innovation is misguidance, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith: Narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih.
The second answer: There is no harm in that. We have written an answer to someone who asked a similar question, in which we clarified the evidence for that. Attached is a copy of it for you.
Third Answer: This manner is not appropriate, because it is an innovation. However, making a supplication for the donor without placing hands on the money given as charity, and without gathering to raise voices in the manner described, is prescribed; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i with a sound chain.
And I ask Allah to grant everyone understanding in His religion, steadfastness upon it, and avoidance of what contradicts it. Indeed, He is Generous and Bountiful. Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
