Ruling on Reading Books That Interpret the Attributes Figuratively

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner: What is the ruling on reading books that their author was afflicted with, such as interpreting the attributes of Allah contrary to the methodology of the righteous Salaf, especially for one who has not studied 'aqidah? May Allah guide you?

Answer:
The student should seek out well-known books, the books of the people of 'aqidah who are known for the Salafi 'aqidah, and focus on them, such as the books of the early scholars: the book of 'Abdullah ibn Ahmad, and 'Uthman ibn Sa'id al-Darimi, and Ibn Khuzaymah (may Allah have mercy on them), and others of the early imams, and likewise those who came after them from the people of knowledge and insight: such as Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir, and the imams of the da'wah, Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (may Allah have mercy on him), and others of the shaykhs who focused on 'aqidah and focused on calling to it, along with the earnestness to reflect upon the Qur'an, for it is the root of all roots, and the focus on the Qur'an and the Sunnah in 'aqidah and other matters.
As for the other books, if the need calls for them, he looks at them and benefits from them, and points out the errors, whether that is in the books of the early scholars or the books of the later scholars.
