What are the most important books recommended in the field of 'aqidah?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your lecture was valuable—may Allah reward you with good—and beneficial. It pains me to know that some matters which concern every Muslim are not fully understood, so what books do you recommend acquiring, particularly those related to 'aqidah?

Answer:
The most important thing, O my sons, and the greatest thing in this field is the Book of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) . This is the most important and greatest thing: caring for the Qur'an. The knowledge of the Companions came from the Qur'an, and the knowledge of the Tabi'un came from the Qur'an, followed by the Sunnah. Therefore, the most important thing we advise is the great Qur'an: memorizing it, reflecting upon it, understanding it, deriving rulings from it, and consulting tafsirs regarding what is difficult, especially the reliable tafsirs, such as those by Ibn Jarir, Ibn Kathir, al-Baghawi, and similar important tafsirs. This is the greatest and largest thing, and it is the foundation of knowledge and the foundation of good.
So whoever is granted the Qur'an, reflects upon the Qur'an, and cares for the Qur'an, has succeeded greatly, especially with sincerity and seeking guidance.
Then the Sunnah: memorizing what is feasible of the Sunnah, such as "Bulugh al-Maram," "Umdat al-Hadith," and "al-Muntaqa." These are great books; if it is feasible to memorize them, or what is feasible of them, this is a great treasure along with the Book of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) , and along with reviewing the books of the scholars in tafsir and commentaries on hadith.
As for the authored books, they are many, but the best of them, as far as I know, are the books of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, the books of the scholar Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him), al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab, and similar books by these meticulous scholars, such as Ibn Abi al-'Izz's commentary on "al-Tahawiyyah," and similar books by the people of the Sunnah. These are more complete than others and better than others.
The books are many, but few are there that are free from some defect. However, the student of knowledge should present what is difficult for him to the Book and the Sunnah, and not take everything in a book, even if its author is great, even if it is Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, even if it is Ibn al-Qayyim, even if it is from the Tabi'un, even if it is from the great ones, such as Ahmad, Ishaq, al-Shafi'i, and others. All of these are scholars, and each of them may err in some issues. So if something is difficult for the student of knowledge, he should present it to the scholars, discuss it with the scholars, and present it to the evidence, so that he may benefit from the truth with insight and guidance.
Among the books that deal with 'aqidah are "al-Tamimiyyah," "al-Humayriyyah," "al-'Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah," and "Ibn Abi al-'Izz's commentary on al-Tahawi's 'Aqidah." These are books that have importance in this field.
Also, the book "al-Tawhid" by Shaykh Muhammad, and "Fath al-Majid" by his grandson Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hasan, and his second grandson Sulayman has a book called "Taysir al-'Aziz al-Hamid." These are also great books, and so is "al-Durar al-Saniyyah," especially the first volume on 'aqidah, and the fatwas of Shaykh al-Islam on 'aqidah. All of these are among the important matters.
