Supplication is prescribed at all times, and ritual purity is not a condition for it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to make supplication at times other than the prayer times, when a person is not in a state of ritual purity, for example while at work? Will his supplication be answered in this state?

Answer:
Supplication is prescribed at all times, and ritual purity is not a condition for it. One may supplicate in all circumstances, whether he is in a state of ritual purity or in a state of major ritual impurity, or in a state of minor ritual impurity, or if a woman is menstruating or experiencing post-natal bleeding. Supplication is required, and so is dhikr (the remembrance of Allah). Among the dhikr are: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). One should remember Allah in all his states, even a woman during her menstruation and post-natal bleeding, and even one in a state of major ritual impurity. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remember Allah in all his states)
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلاَفِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لآيَاتٍ لِّأُوْلِي الألْبَابِ
[Al-Imran:190], and Allah the Exalted and Majestic says:
Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sidesالَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَىَ جُنُوبِهِمْ
[Al-Imran:191].
Therefore, it is prescribed for the believer to engage in dhikr in all circumstances. He is only prohibited from reciting the Qur'an specifically when in a state of major ritual impurity. And He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: :
And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.
[Al-Jumu'ah:10].
And the believer is commanded to engage in dhikr constantly, whether standing, sitting, or lying on his side, in a state of ritual purity, except in the case of reciting the Qur'an, which is prohibited specifically when in a state of major ritual impurity.
