Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the authenticity of the hadith:
Usury is seventy and some sinsالربا بضع وسبعون حوبًا
?

Answer:
There is nothing wrong with it; it is a good hadith, and its full text is:
And the most severe of usury is a Muslim’s backbiting of his Muslim brotherوإن أربى الربا استطالة المسلم في عرض أخيه المسلم
This hadith has come through multiple chains of narration. It is obligatory for the believer to guard against the types of usury and to guard against all sins. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) classified backbiting a Muslim as usury, because its harm is great, and it causes trials, disputes, corruption in society, and enmity when a person says what he said about another. Through this and other hadiths, it is known that backbiting and talebearing are among the greatest corruptions on earth, and they are among the most severe forms of usury. Usury is not limited to buying and selling only, but it also exists in sins, violations, and transgressing against people through backbiting and talebearing.
We ask Allah for well-being; because it is an addition to what Allah has permitted, he has committed usury by adding to what Allah permitted him, until he fell into what is forbidden and committed what Allah has prohibited. We ask Allah for safety.
