The Remedy for the Hardness of the Heart
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I am a committed young man—praise be to Allah—and I try to apply the Sunnah in all aspects of my life. I stand in prayer at night, I fast during the day, I complete a portion of the Book of Allah every day, I do not neglect the Duha prayer, and I strive to give charity. Nevertheless, I complain of the hardness of my heart and the lack of weeping when I hear the Book of Allah. What do you advise us to do? May Allah reward you.
Answer:
The best advice for treating the heart and its hardness is to pay attention to the Noble Qur'an and reflect upon it, and to recite it frequently, along with increasing the remembrance of Allah . Indeed, reading the Noble Qur'an with reflection, increasing the remembrance of Allah, and saying: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa Allah (There is no god but Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), and Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allah al-Azim (Glory be to Allah and His praise, Glory be to Allah the Magnificent), and La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulk wa lahul-hamd, yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir (There is no god but Allah alone, having no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He gives life and He causes death, and He is over all things competent)—all of these are among the causes for removing hardness.
