Question:
Your Eminence knows that the intention for ablution is obligatory for the Muslim. Therefore, I would like to know how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed his ablution? What did he say after finishing his ablution? And did he say anything during the ablution?
Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution once, and sometimes twice, and sometimes three times. So, ablution is a condition for prayer. Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Ma'idah: 6], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1Sahih (Darussalam), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 225.
So, ablution is a condition for prayer that is necessary. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution as follows: He washed his hands three times first, and he would mention the name of Allah , then he would rinse his mouth, sniff water into his nose, and blow it out, then he would wash his face, then he would wash his arms including the elbows, then he would wipe his head including his ears, then he would wash his feet including the heels.
This is his ablution (peace and blessings be upon him): He washes his palms first three times, then he begins by rinsing his mouth, sniffing water into his nose, and blowing it out, then he washes his face, then he washes his arms including the elbows, then he wipes his head including his ears, then he washes his feet including the heels. Doing it once is sufficient, and he might wash twice: he would wash his face twice, rinse his mouth twice, sniff water twice, wash his face twice, wash his arms twice, wipe his head once—the head is always wiped once—and wash his feet twice including the heels.
The most common practice was that he would wash three times. This is the most common and the best. He would rinse his mouth, sniff water into his nose, and blow it out three times with three mouthfuls, then he would wash his face three times, meaning three times, then he would wash his arms including the elbows three times, each hand three times, then he would wipe his head including his ears once, then he would wash his feet including the heels three times.
This is the complete ablution, and this is the most common of his actions (peace and blessings be upon him). If a person performs ablution once, or twice, or three times, in some of the limbs, or twice in some of the limbs, or once in some of the limbs, all of this is sufficient, and praise be to Allah.
And when he finishes, he says:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 55Da'if (Darussalam). This is a recommended practice after ablution. And in the hadith: Bulugh al-Maram 57, and this contains great virtue.
As for supplication during ablution, there is nothing narrated to be said during ablution. Rather, he should begin with the mention of Allah’s name and conclude with the testimony of faith. As for when washing the face or the hands, there is nothing [to be said]. Everything that has been said about this consists of fabricated hadiths that are not authentic.

Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution once, and sometimes twice, and sometimes three times. So, ablution is a condition for prayer. Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles
Salat will not be accepted without purification, nor Charity from Ghulul.
The prayer of none amongst you would be accepted in a state of impurity until he performs ablution.

And when he finishes, he says:
I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone, there are no partners for Him. And I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Make me among the repentant, and make me among those who purify themselves.
If one after performing ablution completely recites the following supplication: (Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu) ‘I testify that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, He is Alone and has no partner and Muhammad (ﷺ) is his slave and Messenger’, all the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through any gate he wishes
As for supplication during ablution, there is nothing narrated to be said during ablution.
