The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the etiquettes of gatherings and companions: "From Abu Burdah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say at the end, when he intended to rise from a gathering:
Glory be to Thee. O Allah, and I begin with praise of Thee, I testify that there is no god but Thou; I ask Thy pardon, and return to Thee in repentance. سبحانك اللهم وبحمدك أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت أستغفرك وأتوب إليك
Sunan Abi Dawud 4859Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
A man said: O Messenger of Allah, you are saying something you did not used to say in the past. He said:
It is an expiation of that which goes on in the assembly. ذلك كفارة لما يكون في المجلس
Riyad as-Salihin 832
Abu Dawud narrated it, and al-Hakim narrated it in al-Mustadrak from the narration of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: The chain of narration is authentic. And from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rarely rose from a gathering without supplicating with these supplications
Allahumma-qsim lana min khashyatika ma tahulu bihi bainana wa baina ma'sika, wa min ta'atika ma tuballighuna bihi jannataka, wa minal-yaqini ma tuhawwinu 'alaina masa-'ibad-dunya. Allahumma matti'na biasma'ina, wa absarina, wa quwwatina ma ahyaitana, waj'alhul-waritha minna, waj'al tharana 'ala man zalamana, wansurna 'ala man 'adana, wa la taj'al musibatana fi dinina, wa la taj'alid-dunya akbara hammina, wa la mablagha 'ilmina, wa la tusallit 'alaina man-la yarhamuna, (O Allah, apportion to us such fear as should serve as a barrier between us and acts of disobedience; and such obedience as will take us to Your Jannah; and such as will make easy for us to bear in the calamities of this world. O Allah! let us enjoy our hearing, our sight and our power as long as You keep us alive and make our heirs from our own offspring, and make our revenge restricted to those who oppress us, and support us against those who are hostile to us let no misfortune afflict our Deen; let not worldly affairs be our principal concern, or the ultimate limit of our knowledge, and let not those rule over us who do not show mercy to us).
Riyad as-Salihin 833
Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: It is a good hadith"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
It has been mentioned to us previously that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
if anyone sits in an assembly where there is much clamour* and says before getting up to leave, “Glory be to Thee, O God, and I begin with praise of Thee; I testify that there is no god but Thou; I ask Thy pardon and turn to Thee in repentance,” من جلس مجلسًا كثر فيه لغطه فليقل: سبحانك اللهم ربنا وبحمدك أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت أستغفرك وأتوب إليك
Mishkat al-Masabih 2433
And in the hadith of Abu Burdah, which the author connected to the previous hadith, there is evidence that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to do this, and he clarified that this is the expiation for the gathering. It is rare for a person to sit in a gathering without some idle talk, nonsense, or wasting of time occurring in it, so it is good to say that whenever one rises from a gathering:
Glory be to Thee. O Allah, and I begin with praise of Thee, I testify that there is no god but Thou; I ask Thy pardon, and return to Thee in repentance. سبحانك اللهم ربنا وبحمدك أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت أستغفرك وأتوب إليك
Sunan Abi Dawud 4859Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
so that it becomes an expiation for the gathering. As for the other hadith mentioned by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) from Ibn 'Umar, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rarely rose from a gathering without saying it, and mentioning the rest of the hadith, we will speak about that, if Allah wills, in another lesson. The point here is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say that in most of his times, but is it in every gathering, even gatherings of admonition and gatherings of remembrance? There is consideration in this. Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) does not follow the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in every gathering, but he may miss some gatherings. If a person says this dhikr during the gathering, or at its beginning, or at its end, the sunnah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do is achieved. And Allah grants success.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the etiquettes of the gathering and the companion.
