All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on the vision and what is related to it. Allah the Exalted said:[Ar-Rum 30:23] Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Sahih al-Bukhari 6990 They said: What are the good tidings? He said: Al-Bukhari narrated it. And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 838 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. In another narration: Sahih Muslim 2263a And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 839 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Riyad as-Salihin 840 In another narration: Riyad as-Salihin 840 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim".

The author al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the vision and what is related to it". The vision means the dream vision. When a person sleeps, Allah the Exalted takes his soul, but it is a minor death, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-An'am 6:60] And Allah the Exalted said: [Az-Zumar 39:42] This death is a minor death in which the soul goes wherever Allah wills. For this reason, among the remembrances for sleep is that you say: Sahih Muslim 2714a Then, in this state, the soul sees dreams and visions that are divided into three categories: a liked vision, a disliked vision, and a vision consisting of things that have no meaning and no purpose. It may be from the play of Satan, it may be from the talk of the self, or it may be from other causes. If a person sees what he likes, this is from Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and it is a blessing of Allah upon the person that He shows him what he likes, because when he sees what he likes, he becomes energetic and happy, and this becomes a good tidings. It is the immediate good tidings of the believer: the true vision that he sees or that is seen for him. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6990 The true vision is seen by the person or seen for him. This is a good tidings and good, and it is from Allah the Mighty and Majestic. As for the disliked vision, it is from Satan. Satan strikes parables for the person in his dream to disturb him. But its remedy is that he seeks refuge in Allah from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what he saw, and he does not mention it to anyone, for it will not harm him. He should not strive to have it interpreted, because some people, when they see what they dislike, strive to have it interpreted and go to the interpreters or look in books to see what this disliked vision is. But if it is interpreted, it will come to pass in the disliked manner. And if the person seeks refuge in Allah from its evil, from the evil of Satan and from the evil of what he saw, and he does not tell anyone about it, then it will not harm him no matter what it is. And this is an easy remedy: that the person is patient, keeps it secret, and seeks help from Allah against the evil of Satan and its evil so that it does not come to pass. As for the third category, which has no specific purpose, this is sometimes from the talk of the self. The person's heart is attached to something, he thinks about it and broods over it, and then he sees it in a dream. Or sometimes Satan plays with him in his dream and shows him things that have no meaning. As a man mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah, I saw in a dream that my head was cut off and my head went running, and I was running after it". So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Because this has no meaning and no basis. His head is cut off and the head runs, and he runs after it; this has no meaning. So the important thing is that these are the categories of the vision. If a parable is struck for a person regarding his father, mother, brother, uncle, or someone else, it may be the reality, or it may be from Satan. Satan impersonates the self in the image of this person, and the sleeper sees him, except the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). If a person sees the Prophet with the known description, then he has truly seen him, because Satan will never impersonate the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and cannot do so. If a person sees a person and it occurs to him that it is the Prophet, let him look for his descriptions: the descriptions of the one he saw. Do they match the descriptions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? If so, it is him. If they do not match, then it is not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but rather illusions from Satan that caused the sleeper to think that this is the Messenger, when it is not the Messenger. And so, always someone comes and says, "I saw the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and he said such and such or did such and such." Then, when he describes him, if his descriptions do not match the descriptions of the Prophet, even though it occurred to him in his dream that it was the Prophet, but when he speaks about his descriptions, it turns out he is not the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So we are certain that this is not the Messenger. But if he described to us what he saw, or if he described to us the one he saw and his descriptions matched the descriptions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then it is him, it is the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). But we must know that it is not possible for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to speak to him about something that contradicts his Shari'ah, ever. That is to say, if a person comes and says, "I saw the Messenger and he said to me such and such and advised me to do such and such," then if it contradicts the Shari'ah, it is a lie, and the lie is from the one who spoke about it, if the descriptions of the one he saw matched the descriptions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). And Allah is the One who grants success.

The author (may Allah have mercy on him) quoted in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the vision and what is related to it: "From Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In another narration: Riyad as-Salihin 841 Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Sunan Ibn Majah 3908Sahih (Darussalam) Muslim narrated it. And from Wathilah ibn al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3509 Al-Bukhari narrated it".

These hadiths are regarding the vision, and some of that has been mentioned previously. We explained that the vision is of three categories. The first category: a good, true vision, and this is from Allah the Mighty and Majestic. We mentioned that it is in what brings joy and that it is the immediate good tidings of the believer. The second, or the second category: the dream, and this is from Satan. The general rule is that it is in what the person dislikes, meaning that Satan shows the person what he dislikes so that he is frightened, disturbed, and sad, and perhaps he becomes ill, because Satan is an enemy to the person.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
