All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He said, may Allah have mercy on him: "Chapter on the recommendation of repeating the greeting of peace to one whom one has met repeatedly in close proximity, such as entering and then exiting and then entering again immediately, or if a tree or the like separates them. From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), in the hadith of the one who performed his prayer poorly, that he came and prayed, then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and greeted him, and he returned the greeting to him, and he said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2692Sahih (Darussalam) So he went back and prayed, then came and greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), until he did that three times. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 5200Sahih Mauquf and Marfu' (Al-Albani) Narrated by Abu Dawud. Chapter on the recommendation of the greeting of peace when entering one's home. Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nur 24:61] From Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Riyad as-Salihin 861 Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, and he said: A good, authentic hadith."

These two chapters are among the etiquettes of the greeting of peace, and al-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned them in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*. That if a person greets his brother with peace and then exits and returns, whether from near or from far, it is even more so that he repeats the greeting. For example, if a person has guests in his house and he enters the house to bring them water or food or the like, then when he returns, he greets them with peace. And this is from the grace of Allah that He has prescribed the greeting of peace and its repetition whenever a person is absent from his brother, whether the absence is long or short. That Allah has prescribed for us that we greet one another with peace, because the greeting of peace is an act of worship, and the reward increases as we increase in it, and our worship of Allah and our reward and recompense with Allah increase. And were it not that Allah had prescribed this, repeating the greeting of peace in this manner would have been an innovation. But from the grace of Allah is that if you are absent from your brother and return, even if from near, you greet him with peace. If a large tree separates you such that you are hidden from him by this tree, or a large stone or rock hides you from him by this rock, then if you meet him, greet him with peace. If a wall separates you, if a car separates you, the important thing is whenever you are absent from him and then you encounter him after the absence, greet him with peace. Then the author, may Allah have mercy on him, cited as evidence the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the story of the man who entered the mosque and prayed a prayer in which he did not settle, clicking it like a pecking motion, then came and greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and he returned the greeting to him and said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2692Sahih (Darussalam) So the man went back and prayed, but like his first prayer without settling, then he returned and greeted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and he returned the greeting to him and said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2692Sahih (Darussalam) Three times. And the man was praying a prayer in which he did not know anything else because he was ignorant. Then he said: "By Him who sent you with the truth, I do not know how to do anything other than this, so teach me." And this is from the wisdom of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he made him repeat this prayer which does not suffice, in order for him to long for knowledge and look forward to it, so that knowledge would return to his heart while it is open to it and in need of it. And it is known that when something comes in response to a need, it is more acceptable to the soul. Look now, if you give a poor man ten riyals and he is in need, he rejoices in it greatly and it has a status, but if you give it to a rich man, it does not matter to him. So the important thing is that the Messenger sent this man back in order for him to look forward to knowledge and long for it and for his heart to open to it. So he said to him: Bulugh al-Maram 2:139 But the recitation of al-Fatihah is obligatory, as indicated by other texts. Sunan Ibn Majah 1060Sahih (Darussalam) This is a complete rak'ah. Sahih Muslim 397a The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him, so he learned and went on. So the author cited this hadith as evidence that if a person returns to his brother, even if from near, let him greet him with peace. For example, you are in the mosque reviewing, you leave to bring your book or to renew your wudu' or the like, then you return and greet with peace. And this is good; every greeting of peace is ten good deeds. If it were said to you that every time you greet with peace I will give you ten riyals, you would greet, repeat, and go out without need just to return and greet, and these would be ten good deeds remaining for you. Greet and repeat, and it does no harm.
