From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Three supplications are accepted , there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of his father against his son. ثلاث دعوات مستجابات لا شك فيهن : دعوة المظلوم، ودعوة المسافر، ودعوة الوالد على ولده
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1905Hasan (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who said: It is a good hadith. And in the narration of Abu Dawud, the phrase "over his child" is not present.
Chapter on what one supplicates with when fearing people or others:
From Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him):
when the Prophet feared a people he said, "O God, we put Thee in front of them, and we seek refuge in Thee from their evils." أنَّ رسول الله كان إذا خاف قومًا قال : اللهم إنا نجعلك في نحورهم، ونعوذ بك مِن شرورهم
Mishkat al-Masabih 2441

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author al-Nawawi -may Allah have mercy on him- said in the book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the recommendation of the traveler's supplication": The traveler is the one who has left his homeland, for he remains a traveler until he returns to it. The traveler's supplication is generally the supplication of one in need, and when a person is in need and supplicates to his Lord, his supplication is likely to be answered, for Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) answers the supplication of the distressed and the supplication of the needy more than He answers the supplication of others. Then he mentioned the hadith:
Three supplications are accepted , there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of ثلاث دعوات مستجابات لا شك فيهن : دعوة المظلوم ودعوة المسافر ودعوة الوالد
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1905Hasan (Darussalam)
:
As for the supplication of the oppressed, its meaning is that if someone wrongs you by taking your wealth or denying that you have a right to it, or by assaulting you with a beating, or by wronging you through backbiting, speaking ill of you in gatherings, this is injustice. If you supplicate to Allah against him, Allah will answer your supplication, even if he is a disbeliever and you wronged him; if he supplicates to Allah against you, Allah will answer his supplication. This means, for example, if you have a disbeliever worker and you wrong him, then he supplicates to Allah against you, Allah will answer his supplication. Not out of love for the disbeliever, but out of love for justice, for Allah is a Just Judge, and the oppressed must be given justice against the oppressor. For this reason, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent Mu'adh to Yemen, he said to him:
Beware of the supplication of the oppressed for there is no barrier between him and Allah. اتق دعوة المظلوم فإنه ليس بينها وبين الله حجاب
Sahih Muslim 19a
: So the supplication of the oppressed is answered when he supplicates against his oppressor with what he was wronged with or less. But if he goes beyond that, he becomes an aggressor, and his supplication is not answered. This is the first one.
The second is: the supplication of the traveler. If he supplicates to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to make his travel easy and to help him with it, or with other supplications, then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will answer him. For this reason, a person should seize the opportunity for supplication during travel. And if the travel is a travel of obedience, such as travel for 'Umrah and Hajj, then the likelihood of the supplication being answered increases.
The third is: the supplication of the parent. In some wordings of the hadith:
over his child على ولده
And in some wordings it is general:
The father. الوالد
meaning whether for his child or against him, and this is the most correct view. The supplication of the parent for his child or against him is answered. As for his supplication for his child, it is because he supplicates for his child out of compassion and mercy, and the merciful are shown mercy by Allah (Mighty and Majestic). As for his supplication against him, a parent cannot supplicate against his child unless the child has earned it, unless the child is deserving of the supplication. So if he supplicates against him and he is deserving of the supplication, Allah answers his supplication. These are three supplications that are answered: the supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler, and the supplication of the parent, whether it is the mother or the father.
