Continuation of the explanation of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “He has prescribed for you fighting, and it is hateful to you. But it may be that you hate a thing and it is good for you, and it may be that you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you do not know.”

The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “The Book of Jihad. Allah the Exalted said: And He the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:216] And He the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah 9:41] And He the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah 9:111]”
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author, al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him), cited in his book *Riyad al-Salihin* verses of jihad, or rather some of the verses of jihad, including what has been mentioned previously and what will follow, if Allah wills. Among them is the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:216] It was mentioned in yesterday’s lesson that fighting is obligatory upon the Muslims to fight the enemies of Allah and their enemies, namely the Jews, the Christians, the polytheists, the communists, and others. Every one who is not a Muslim, it is obligatory upon the Muslims to fight them until the word of Allah is the highest. This is either by their Islam, or by their paying the jizyah (tax on protected non-Muslims) from the hand while they are humbled. That is to say, we do not force them to become Muslim; we do not say it is obligatory for them to become Muslim. But we say that Islam must be the apparent religion. Either you become Muslim, and may Allah keep you safe, or you remain on your religion but you pay the jizyah. You pay the jizyah from the hand while you are humbled. If they refuse both Islam and the jizyah, it becomes obligatory upon us to fight them. However, before fighting them, it is obligatory for us to prepare whatever strength we can. We must prepare whatever strength we can, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Anfal 8:60] Strength is of two types: spiritual strength and material, tangible strength. Spiritual strength is faith: faith in Allah and righteous deeds, before we begin the jihad of others.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.
كتب عليكم القتال وهو كره لكم وعسى أن تكرهوا شيئًا وهو خير لكم وعسى أن تحبوا شيئًا وهو شر لكم والله يعلم وأنتم لا تعلمونGo forth, whether light or heavy, and strive with your wealth and your lives in the cause of Allah
انفروا خفافًا وثقالًا وجاهدوا بأموالكم وأنفسكم في سبيل اللهIndeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah, so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
