Persisting in sin and not being granted success in repentance is a punishment from Allah the Exalted.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Those whom Allah has punished with an immediate punishment, may Allah protect us from it, what is the immediate punishment? It is finding this act pleasant, continuing in it, and persisting in it. Indeed, persisting in sin is a punishment, may Allah protect us from it. If Allah does not bestow repentance upon a person for their sin, then know that their continuation in this sin is a punishment from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, for them, because they do not increase in anything from Allah through this sin except distance, their sins do not increase except in number, and their faith does not increase except in decrease. So we ask Allah for guidance and success for us and for them.
