The ruling on seeking forgiveness while persisting in sin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
One of the sisters referred to her name by saying: “Your sister in Allah.” She asks a collection of questions, among which is this question: May Allah the Exalted honor us with seeking forgiveness. I read in the book *Al-Adhkar* that a person clung to the curtains of the Ka'bah and said: “O Allah, if my seeking forgiveness while persisting in sin is base, then my abandoning seeking forgiveness while knowing the vastness of Your forgiveness is weakness.”
Answer: It is obligatory for the believer to seek forgiveness and repent, even if he persists, he must strive against his self. Clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah has no basis for this. However, one repents to Allah in any place: in his house, in the mosque, on the road, in any place, at the Ka'bah in al-Masjid al-Haram, during tawaf, during sa'y, in any place. The obligatory thing is turning back to Allah and the sincere resolve to abandon sins. It is not baseness; rather, it is obligatory for him to seek Allah's forgiveness and to strive, even if sins are present. He should account for his self and strive against it until he abandons these sins. The existence of Allah and His generosity, Exalted is He, obligates the believer to have hope in ... Allah, and to be eager for seeking forgiveness and not to despair, even if sins remain. Do not despair, do not despair, strive against your self. This is what is obligatory upon him, and this is from Allah's guidance for him to persist and strive in supplication, even if sins remain with him until they are removed. Do not be lax and say: “I am despairing.” No, Allah says:
do not despair of the mercy of Allahلا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ
[Az-Zumar: 53], and He says:
And do not despair of the mercy of Allah.وَلا تَيْئَسُوا مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ
[Yusuf: 87]. So if you persist, do not despair. Strive against your self in regret, abandoning, and leaving sins according to your capacity at all times. Do not despair of Allah's mercy and do not lose hope. Rather, this is wisdom: to strive. It is not weakness. Rather, it is wisdom to strive in repentance, regret, abandoning, and accounting for the self, and to be eager for the company of the righteous, and to remember the greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you of His right, until you repent to Him and turn back to Him. He, Exalted is He, is the Generous, the Noble, the Owner of vast mercy and vast forgiveness. So do not lose hope and do not despair. But beware of obeying Satan in not repenting and seeking forgiveness. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
