Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: "Chapter on the severity of the deliberate false oath:
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: من حلف على مال امرئ مسلم بغير حقه، لقي الله وهو عليه غضبان، قال: ثم قرأ علينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مصداقه من كتاب الله عز وجل: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَشْتَرُونَ بِعَهْدِ اللهِ وَأَيْمَانِهِمْ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا Whoever swears an oath over the property of a Muslim man without having a right to it, will meet Allah while He is angry with him. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited for us its confirmation from the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: Indeed, those who purchase the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price to the end of the verse, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And it was narrated from Abu Umamah, Iyas ibn Tha'labah al-Harithi (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Whoever seizes the wealth of a Muslim unlawfully by means of his (false) oath, Allah makes the Fire required for him, Paradise unlawful for him." A man said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, even if it is something small?" He said: "Even if it is a twig of an Arak tree."
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5419Sahih (Darussalam)
Narrated by Muslim.
And it was narrated from Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said:
The major sins are: Associating others with Allah, disobeying parents, killing a soul (murder) and swearing a false oath knowingly.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4011Da'if (Darussalam)
Narrated by al-Bukhari.
And in a narration from him:
That a Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, what are the major sins? He said: Associating partners with Allah. He said: Then what? He said: The oath that sinks. I said: What is the oath that sinks? He said: One who seizes the property of a Muslim man
: meaning by an oath in which he is lying "

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*: "Chapter on the severity of the false oath": which is the one by which the property of a Muslim man is seized. This is because it is obligatory for a person, when he swears by Allah, to be truthful, whether he swears about a matter concerning himself or a matter concerning someone else.
So if he swears an oath and is lying in it: if he is seizing the property of a Muslim man by it, even if it is small, then he will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection while He is angry with him. An example of this is: a person is claimed against by someone who says: "I am demanding a thousand riyals from you," and he says: "No, I owe you nothing," and the claimant has no evidence, so the judge says to the denier: "Swear that he has nothing with you," so he swears, saying: "By Allah, he has nothing with me." The judge will rule that he has no right over him,
For the evidence is upon the one who claims, and the oath is upon the one who denies
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 14:81
, so this man who swore while lying will meet Allah while He is angry with him, refuge with Allah, and Allah will forbid him Paradise and put him in the Fire, may Allah grant us safety.
Until they said: O Messenger of Allah, even if it is a small thing? He said: Even if it is a twig of arak
Sahih Ibn Hibban 32:8
: a twig: what fills the hand of fodder or sticks or the like, meaning even if it is so, or if the twig is a single stick of arak: meaning from the toothpicks, so even if a person swears an oath by which he seizes the property of a Muslim man, even if it is a stick of arak, he will incur this severe warning, refuge with Allah.
As for what concerns himself, such as if it is said to him: "You did such and such," and he says: "By Allah, I did not do it," and he is lying, then if he is lying, he does not deserve this warning, but he is sinful, refuge with Allah, having combined lying with swearing by Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, while lying, so the punishment is multiplied for him. So the Muslim person should be respectful of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and honor Him, not swearing often, and if he swears, let him be truthful so that he may be dutiful to his oath. May Allah grant us and you success for what He loves and is pleased with.
