What is narrated from some of the Salaf that they would stand in night prayer for a thousand rak'ahs or eighty...?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : It is narrated from some of the Salaf that they would stand in night prayer for a thousand rak'ahs, or three hundred rak'ahs, or eighty rak'ahs, and it is authentic...

The Shaykh : Ibn al-Mutahhar said in his book "Minhaj al-Karamah": He said: "Among the special attributes of Imam 'Ali is that he would pray a thousand rak'ahs between the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers". The Shaykh al-Islam said to him: "If 'Ali ibn Abi Talib prays a thousand rak'ahs between Maghrib and 'Isha', then this is one of his faults, not one of his virtues". If he prays a thousand rak'ahs in such a short period, it means he is playing, correct? How does he recite al-Fatihah? How does he recite the tashahhud? How does he be composed? So the result is that some of the Salaf (may Allah have mercy on them) had a desire for good, and you find them striving to increase their prayer, but they were not following the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). I mean, the least we can say about these people is that they were striving but making a mistake; that is the best of their states, do you understand? As for the one who hits the mark, he is the one who follows the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes, Shaker?
