Explanation of the Book of Friday and the Two Festivals-04b

The reciter: Abdullah ibn Yusuf narrated to us, Malik informed us, from Nafi', from Abdullah ibn 'Umar: Sahih al-Bukhari 937.
The Shaykh : Yes, the prayer before the Friday prayer has no limit. When a person comes to the mosque, he prays until the time of prohibition arrives. The time of prohibition is ten minutes before the sun reaches its zenith, as a precaution, or less. Some scholars said: he prays until the imam arrives, based on hadiths that have been reported regarding this. So we say: if he prays until the imam arrives, there is no blame on him, if Allah wills. And if he prays and stops the prayer when the time of prohibition arrives, that is more cautious.
As for what some ignorant people do when the time of the sun reaching its zenith approaches and the time of prohibition enters, they stand up to pray even though they were sitting before, this is a serious error. This is because they stood up during the time of prohibition in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade prayer.
As for after the prayer, it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to pray two rak'ahs in his house. And it is established from him that he said:Sahih Muslim 881a Some of them said: it is two rak'ahs in the house. And some of them said: it is four. Those who said it is two rak'ahs said: because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not exceed that. And those who said it is four said: because in the issue there is both a statement and an action. The action is two rak'ahs and the statement is four, Sahih Muslim 881a.
Some scholars said: he prays six, taking the statement and the action into account. So he prays four based on the statement of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and two based on his action.
But there is no doubt that this is not correct. This is like if someone said: in the opening supplication, one combines "Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika" with "Allahumma ba'id bayni". Because in the opening supplication, we know that the Messenger did not say anything but one of them. Similarly here, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not combine six rak'ahs in his house.
And Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: if he prays in the mosque, it is four; and if he prays in the house, it is two rak'ahs. And what is stronger in my view is that it is four, whether in the house or in the mosque, taking the statement into account.
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to pray two rak`at before the Zuhr prayer and two rak`at after it. He also used to pray two rak`at after the Maghrib prayer in his house, and two rak`at after the `Isha' prayer. He never prayed after Jumua prayer till he departed (from the Mosque), and then he would pray two rak`at at home.
