Continuation of the explanation of the hadith: ( ... He said: (Go, for I have given you her in marriage with what you have of the Qur'an) ... ) .

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
Go, for I have given you her in marriage اذهب فقد ملكتكها
Go, how can he own her after he goes? No, the meaning is: he owned her, then he said to him:
Go اذهب
This is the meaning of the hadith. He said:
Narrated Sahl b. Sa'd al-Sa'idi: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I have offered myself to you. When she stood for a long time, a man got up and said: Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need for her. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) asked: Have you anything to give her as dower ? He replied: I have nothing by this lower garment of mine. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If you give your lower garment, you will sit while you have no lower garment. So look for something else. He said: I do not find anything. He said: Look for something, even though it should be an iron ring. The man sought it but found nothing. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Do you know anything from the Qur'an ? He said: Yes, I know surah so and so, which he named. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: I have given you her in marriage for the part of the Qur'an which you know. بما معك من القرآن
Sunan Abi Dawud 2111Sahih (Al-Albani)
The preposition "ba" here is a point on which the scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, differed. Some scholars said it is causal, and some scholars said it is for compensation. The difference between the two views is clear. If we say it is causal, the meaning of the hadith becomes that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made his memorization of these surahs the mahr, and it is known that the woman does not benefit from this. And if we say it is compensation, the meaning becomes: you teach her what you have of the Qur'an. The closer view is the second, because it is the one that agrees with the saying of Allah the Exalted:
that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property أن تبّتغُوا بأمَوالِكُم
[An-Nisa 4:24]
Then he said, yes?

The questioner : We said that it is not permissible for a woman to propose to ...

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : Shaykh, this means by analogy to the man, an analogy with a difference.

The Shaykh : And what is the difference?

The questioner : The man can, I mean, two men cannot propose, I mean, marry one woman.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : But two women, it is permissible, it is permissible for them to marry one man.

The Shaykh : What do you say about this?
The student: Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : Yes, some of the people of knowledge mentioned this and said that there is a difference, which is that a man can gather two women, taking the first and the second, unlike a woman, whom two men cannot marry. But it is said: does every person have the ability to marry two women? Not every person has the ability. So if that is the case, the 'illah (operative cause) is present. Then, who desires to gather two women? Not every person desires that. So the truth, the original ruling, is that the right of the woman who was proposed to is respected, and as long as he proposed to her and relied on her, everyone knows that if a second woman came and said, "O so-and-so, I offer myself to you," that this is an encroachment. Yes, yes?
