Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : I mean, the issue of a woman being a shaykh to a man. They mentioned in the biography of Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) that Fatimah bint Juwayr was his shaykh in the law of inheritance.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : How?

The Shaykh : Yes, it does not contradict the fact that this man, who is Ibn al-Qayyim, could go to her alone, ask her questions, or study with her. But appointing her as a teacher for a group of men!

The questioner : But I mean, even if she were behind a hijab and hidden?

The Shaykh : By Allah, I lean toward prohibition. The discussion of this hadith does not indicate that, because the time now is a time of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), a time of fitnah. And if the door is opened, you will not be able to close it afterwards; it will expand. And you are now looking at the realities; they appear small at first, then they expand quickly, because there are those who expand them. They are ahead of time in expanding these fitnahs. So a person, to the extent of his ability, stands as a barrier against them. And if the stream becomes greater than the dam, the dam breaks.
