The Ruling on the Husayniyyah of the Rafidah and the Slaughter Performed on This Occasion

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
From Abdulaziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz to the honorable brother, the questioner: Muhammad A. Kuwait. May Allah guide you to what pleases Him and increase you in knowledge and faith. Amen.
Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings. As for what follows:
Your noble letter has reached us, may Allah connect you to the rope of guidance and success, and the two questions it contained were known.

The first: What is the ruling on the Husayniyyah of the Rafidah and what occurs in them of slapping and scratching the cheeks, wailing, tearing of garments, and beating that sometimes reaches the use of chains, along with calling for aid from the dead and the noble Household of the Prophet?

The second: What is the ruling on the slaughters performed in that place on this occasion? And what is the ruling on the distribution of these drinks in the streets and among the general public?
The answer is: This is a heinous abomination and a reprehensible religious innovation. It must be abandoned, and participation in it is not permissible, nor is it permissible to eat from the food served therein; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) , the people of the Household and others, did not do it. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718a
, agreed upon as authentic. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) suspended it in his Sahih with certainty. And the hadiths in this meaning are numerous.
As for calling for aid from the dead and the people of the house, that is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) by the consensus of the scholars; for Allah the Exalted said:
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[23:117] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said::
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[72:18] And Allah the Exalted said:
And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and they, of their invocation, are unaware.
[Al-Ahqaf 46:5]
And when mankind is gathered, they will be their enemies, and they will disavow their worship of them[46:5-6] And Allah the Exalted said:
He causes the night to enter the day, and He causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon - each running [its course] for a specified term. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs sovereignty. And those whom you invoke other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed.
[Fatir 35:13]
If you call them, they will not hear your call, and even if they did hear, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disavow your shirk (associating partners with Allah), and none can inform you like one who is well-informed[35:13-14] And there are many verses in this meaning.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Supplication is worship
, narrated by the people of the four Sunan with a sound chain. And Muslim narrated in his Sahih from the Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) , from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he
Allah cursed him who sacrificed for anyone besides Allah
Sahih Muslim 1978b
. So it is obligatory upon all the Shi'ah and others to make worship sincere for Allah alone, and to beware of calling for aid from other than Allah, and of supplicating to the dead and the absent, whether they are from the Household or not.
Likewise, one must beware of supplicating to inanimate objects and calling for aid from them, such as idols, trees, stars, and the like, due to the scriptural evidence we have mentioned. And the scholars from the people of the Sunnah and the community, including the Companions and others, have agreed upon this.

The second: What is the ruling on the slaughters performed in that place on this occasion? And what is the ruling on the distribution of these drinks in the streets and among the general public?
The answer to this question is the answer to the first question, which is: It is a reprehensible religious innovation, and participation in it is not permissible, nor is eating from these slaughters, nor drinking from these drinks. And if the one who slaughtered did so for other than Allah, from the Household or others, that is major shirk (associating partners with Allah), due to the saying of Allah, the Exalted:
Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.قُلْ إِنَّ صَلاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝
[Al-An'am 6:162]
, no partner has He, and for that I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims [Al-An'am: 162-163]. And His saying, the Exalted:
Indeed, We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar.
[Al-Kawthar 108:1]
, so pray to your Lord and sacrifice [Al-Kawthar: 1-2]. And the verses and hadiths in this meaning are numerous.
And we ask Allah to guide us and you and all our Muslim brothers to everything He loves and is pleased with, and to protect us and you and all our brothers from misleading trials. Indeed, He is near and responsive. And may peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you.
