On the supplication for mounting a vehicle in an elevator
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The sister S. M. A. from Makkah al-Mukarramah says in her question: Is it recommended that we recite the supplication for mounting a vehicle when we ride in the elevator found in buildings, which carries people from one floor to another? And is there a restriction on the cases in which this supplication is recited? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: The supplication for mounting a vehicle is only recommended when a person mounts a beast of burden, a car, an airplane, a ship, or something else for the purpose of travel. As for ordinary riding within the city or in an elevator, I do not know of any evidence in the Shari'ah that indicates the legitimacy of reciting the travel supplication.
It is known among the scholars that all acts of worship are based on divine legislation, and nothing is legislated from them except what is indicated by evidence from the Book, the Sunnah, or valid scholarly consensus. And success is from Allah.
