Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, brother A. A. A. from Buraydah, says in his question: I heard that there are two supplications with different wordings, one for mounting a mount and the other for travel. Is this correct? And what is the wording of each? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
It is prescribed for a Muslim, when he mounts his mount for travel, to say what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say, which is: In the name of Allah, and all praise is for Allah, and he says Allahu Akbar three times, and says: Glory be to Him who subjected this to us, and we would not have been able to do so ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we shall return. O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that You are pleased with. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten the distance for us. O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Guardian of the family when one is absent. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of the journey, from a depressing sight, and from a bad return regarding wealth and family..
The exegetes (may Allah have mercy on them), including al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir, mentioned what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say when traveling, when he mounted his mount, in connection with the words of the Exalted in Surat al-Zukhruf:[Az-Zukhruf 43:12] so that you may ride on their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have mounted them, and say: Glory be to Him who subjected this to us, and we would not have been able to do so ourselves. And indeed, to our Lord we shall return. [al-Zukhruf: 12-14]. And success is from Allah.
