The Use of Fragrances Known as (Cologne)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is it permissible to use fragrances known as (cologne) that contain alcohol?
A: The use of fragrances known as (cologne) that contain alcohol is not permissible; because it has been established for us, according to the statement of the experts among the doctors, that it is intoxicating; due to the known spirit substance in it, and thereby its use is forbidden for men and women.
As for wudu, it is not invalidated by it, and as for prayer, there is consideration regarding its validity; because the majority hold that intoxicants are impure, and they hold that if one prays while wearing impurity, remembering it and intending it, his prayer is not valid.
And some scholars held that intoxicants do not render things impure.
And thereby it is known that if one prays while it is on his clothes or part of his body, forgetting it, or being ignorant of its ruling, or believing it to be pure, his prayer is valid.
And the most cautious course is to wash what of it touches the body and the garment; to avoid the disagreement of the scholars. If a type of cologne is found that does not intoxicate, its use is not forbidden; because the ruling revolves with its cause in existence and absence.
And success is from Allah.
