The Possession of a Human by a Jinn: A Real and Known Fact
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: from: S. H. - from Makkah al-Mukarramah: Is the possession of a human by a jinn established? What is the evidence for it? And what is the ruling on one who does not believe in it? May Allah reward you with good.
A: In the name of Allah, and all praise is due to Allah: The possession of a human by a jinn is a known and real matter, and its evidence is abundant from the Book and the Sunnah. Among this is His saying, the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:275] the verse [Surat al-Baqarah: 275]. And among this is His saying, (Exalted and Majestic is He): [Surat al-Tur: 29]. The Exalted clarified in this verse that His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is neither a fortune-teller nor a madman.
This indicates that fortune-telling and madness exist, and that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is free from both. The verses in this meaning are numerous. Likewise, the hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in this meaning are numerous. Among them is the hadith of the woman who complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that she suffered from seizures and asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to make a supplication for her. He said to her:Sahih Muslim 2576 She said: O Messenger of Allah, I expose myself, so call upon Allah that I not expose myself? So he made a supplication for her, (peace and blessings be upon him). And among them is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 4719Sahih (Al-Albani) It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
By this, it is known that it is not permissible to deny the possession of a human by a jinn; because that is a stubborn denial of reality and a contradiction of the Shari'ah evidence. However, many people may be afflicted with seizures without a jinn; due to diseases that affect their head or elsewhere, so he or others think that he is mad, but he is not mad. The scholar Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) and others have pointed this out. We have witnessed this in some people, and it was treated with cauterization on the head, so the disorder in his mind that afflicted him was removed. The reality of this is common. We ask Allah for well-being and safety.
