The Ruling on Performing Ablution in the Bathroom

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling for one who performs ablution in the bathroom, and is his ablution permissible?

A: There is nothing wrong with performing ablution in the bathroom if there is a pressing need to do so. One should say the name of Allah at the beginning of the ablution, saying: "In the name of Allah"; because the invocation is obligatory according to some scholars, and strongly recommended according to the majority. So one should say it, and the dislike is removed; because the dislike is removed when there is a pressing need for the invocation, and a person is commanded to invoke the name of Allah at the beginning of the ablution, so he should invoke it and complete his ablution.
As for the tashahhud, it is to be done after leaving the bathroom—which is the place for relieving oneself. So when he finishes his ablution, he goes out and performs the tashahhud outside.
As for if the bathroom is for ablution only, not for excrement or urine, then there is nothing wrong with performing it there; because it is not a place for relieving oneself.
