Waking up and wanting to pray: Is wudu' or istinja' obligatory?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A question from: Abu Sa'd. He says: If a person wakes up from his sleep and wants to pray, is wudu' or istinja' obligatory for him?
A: In the name of Allah, and all praise is due to Allah.
If he did not urinate and did not defecate, then sleep requires only wudu'—that is, the wiping method—and passing wind is likewise only the wiping method, as is touching the private parts and eating camel meat. In these cases, only the wiping method is required, which consists of washing the face, the hands, wiping the head and the ears, and washing the feet. This is the wiping method, which is called wudu'. He does not need istinja', for istinja' is required only for urine or feces.
