Ruling on wiping over socks made of cotton or wool

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Does wiping over leather socks apply to socks made of cotton or wool, or the nylon currently in use? What are the conditions for wiping over leather socks? And is it permissible to pray in shoes?

A: It is permissible to wipe over clean, covering socks, just as it is permissible to wipe over leather socks. This is based on what is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he wiped over socks and sandals, and what is established from a group of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that they wiped over socks.
The difference between socks and leather socks is that a leather sock is what is made from leather, whereas a sock is what is made from cotton or the like.
Among the conditions for wiping over leather socks and socks are that they must cover the place where ritual purity is obligatory, that they be put on while in a state of ritual purity, and that this be within one day and night for a resident, and three days and nights for a traveler, starting from the wiping after a state of ritual impurity; acting in accordance with the authentic hadiths reported on this matter.
It is permissible to pray in sandals that are free from impurity; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in his sandals, and it is agreed upon that this is authentic. And because of his (peace and blessings be upon him) statement in the hadith of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) :
When any one of you comes to the mosque, let him turn over his sandals. If he finds any impurity in them, let him wipe it off, then let him pray in them.إذا أتى أحدكم المسجد فليقلب نعليه، فإن رأى فيهما أذى فليمسحه ثم ليصل فيهما
It was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud with a good chain of narration.
However, if the mosque is carpeted, the safest course is to place them in a suitable place, or to put one on top of the other between one's knees, so as not to dirty the carpet for the worshippers.
And success is from Allah.
