The edges of carpets are not a barrier for the one praying

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Are the edges of the carpets in the mosques considered a barrier for the one praying?

A: The edges of the carpets are not considered a barrier for the one praying. The Sunnah is that the barrier should be something standing, such as the back of a saddle or more than that, like a wall, a pillar, a chair, or the like. If he does not find one, he should place a stick or the like in front of him if he is an imam or praying alone. As for the one praying behind an imam, the imam’s barrier is his barrier. If he is in an open area and does not find a barrier, he should draw a line.
The basis for this is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
When anyone of you performs prayer, let him pray facing towards a Sutrah, and let him get close to itإذا صلى أحدكم فليصل إلى سترة وليدن منها
Sunan Ibn Majah 954Sahih (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Abu Dawud from Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) with a sound chain. And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
In case there is not before him (an object) like the back of a saddle, a Muslim's Salat (prayer) would be cut off by (the passing of) a woman, a donkey and a black dogيقطع صلاة الرجل إذا لم يكن بين يديه مثل آخرة الرحل المرأة والحمار والكلب الأسود
Bulugh al-Maram 2:98
It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. And it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
When anyone of you performs prayer, let him put something in front of him. If he cannot find anything then let him put a stick. If he cannot find one, then let him draw a line. Then it will not matter if anything passes in front of him.إذا صلى أحدكم فليجعل تلقاء وجهه، شيئًا فإن لم يجد فلينصب عصًا، فإن لم يجد فليخط خطًا، ثم لا يضره من مر بين يديه
Sunan Ibn Majah 943Da’if (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban graded it as authentic.
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said in (Al-Bulugh), and he who claimed that it is confused did not hit the mark; rather, it is good. And success is from Allah.
