What is the ruling on mixing intoxicants with other substances?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : All right, O Shaykh, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whatever a lot of it intoxicates, a little of it is unlawful. ما أسكر كثيره فقليله حرام
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1865Hasan (Darussalam)
...?

The Shaykh : We must know the difference between saying, "Whatever intoxicates in large quantity, its small quantity is forbidden," and saying, "Whatever is intoxicating and is mixed with something else is forbidden." The meaning of "whatever intoxicates in large quantity" is that this specific drink, if you consume a large amount of it, will intoxicate you, but if you consume a small amount, it will not. In that case, the small amount is forbidden because it is a means to the forbidden. As for mixing intoxicants with something else in a way that their effect does not appear, this has no impact, just as if impurity fell into a vessel and did not change it; in that case, the water is not impure. We said that if dough is kneaded with intoxicants, it becomes forbidden, provided that it intoxicates. It is well known that if you knead dough with intoxicants, it will certainly affect it. However, if a very small amount is mixed in, which diminishes and its effect disappears, it is not considered.
