What is the reason that some of the miqat boundaries are close and others are far?

The Shaykh : We now begin the new lesson, if Allah wills. Someone asks: Why are these miqat boundaries such that some are far and some are close? The answer to this question is that it should not be raised, because this question is similar to asking: Why is the midday prayer four units, the afternoon prayer four units, the sunset prayer three units, and the dawn prayer two units? Why is the midday prayer not eight units, the afternoon prayer the same, the night prayer the same, the sunset prayer five units, and the dawn prayer four units? Questions are not asked about prescribed acts of worship, because a person’s stance toward them is to say, “We hear and we obey.” However, there is no blame on a person for seeking the wisdom behind them, because looking into the wisdom increases a person’s tranquility. The wisdom, and Allah knows best, is that the miqat for the people of Madinah is located after the boundary of the sacred precinct of Madinah, in order to bring the characteristics of the two sacred precincts closer to one another. Madinah is a sacred precinct and Makkah is a sacred precinct. The boundary of the sacred precinct of Makkah is defined, but entering the state of ihram for worship is a characteristic specific to the sacred precinct of Makkah. So it was wise that a person not leave the boundaries of the sacred precinct of Madinah except for a short distance before entering what is specific to the sacred precinct of Makkah. This, and Allah knows best, is the wisdom. As for the rest, it is possible, and Allah knows best, that al-Juhfah at that time was the most populous village around the route of the people of al-Sham, and the remaining three are close to one another.
