Discussion on the benefit of knowing the prohibitions of ihram in terms of actions and conduct.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : What is the benefit for a person in knowing the prohibitions of ihram in terms of actions and conduct? Is the benefit that he knows what is prohibited and what consequences follow, or is the benefit that he knows what is prohibited so that he avoids it, and if he is afflicted with it, he knows what is obligatory upon him?

The questioner : The second.

The Shaykh : The second. For this reason, we are deficient in our knowledge because we do not apply what we have learned to our conduct. We mostly know the legal ruling, but as for applying it, that is little. We ask Allah to treat us with His forgiveness. The benefit of knowledge is practical application, such that the effect of knowledge appears on the face of the person, in his conduct, his morals, his worship, his dignity, his fear of Allah, and so on. This is what is important. As for knowing, I think if a clever Christian man were to study fiqh less than we have studied, he would understand it as well as we do, or better. Look now at the Arabic language; al-Munjid, they say its author is a Christian, and he conducts good research. So theoretical matters are not what is intended by knowledge.
Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an اللهم إني أسألك علماً نافعاً
Sunan Ibn Majah 925Sahih (Darussalam)
The benefit of knowledge is benefiting from it. This is the benefit of knowledge. How many common people, very ignorant compared to a student of knowledge, do you find who have more humility before Allah the Mighty and Majestic, more monitoring of Allah, and better conduct, behavior, and worship than the student of knowledge? And this is the reality. I ask Allah to treat me and you with His forgiveness. The most important thing is conduct. This is from the prohibitions of ihram, we must avoid it. This is from the invalidators of fasting, we must avoid it. Not just that we know that this is prohibited or this is an invalidator. The most important thing is education and being educated in what we have learned of knowledge, otherwise there is no benefit.
Now, the prohibitions of ihram are nine, and we have finished them, and praise be to Allah. Do you want us to take a discussion on them, or do we continue?

The questioner : We continue.
