The Meaning of Hudhayfah's Statement: "If I See a Thing, I Forget It..."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The statement of (Hudhayfah): "I used to see a thing, then I would forget it, and then I would recognize it?"

Answer:
From the sermon, he says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a great sermon to them, prolonging it, until the people of Paradise entered their abodes and the people of the Fire entered their abodes. This means: he informed them of what would happen in the future of time, of what Allah revealed to him. Those who knew this from his knowledge knew it, those who did not know it did not know it, and those who forgot it forgot it.
He says that some of the matters I remember from the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) sermon are like when a person remembers someone he saw previously, then that person was absent from him, and he forgot him, then he sees him again. When he sees him, he recognizes him and remembers that he is the companion he saw previously.
