Question:
The hadith: "Only a sorcerer can undo sorcery"?

Answer:
This is a statement made by some of the Salaf, specifically al-Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him), who said, "Only a sorcerer can undo sorcery." This is a statement by some of the Salaf, and its meaning is correct. That is, it cannot be undone by means other than the prescribed ruqyah, the prescribed seeking of refuge, and lawful medicines, except by a sorcerer who worships the jinn.
As for undoing it through the prescribed ruqyah, seeking refuge, and permissible medicines, there is nothing wrong with that. Among the best treatments is the prescribed seeking of refuge: "We seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created," recited three times in the morning and evening, and reciting Surat al-Ikhlas and the two chapters of seeking refuge (al-Falaq and al-Nas) three times in the morning, in the evening, and before sleeping. All of these are among the means of protection.
