The Meaning of His Statement: "He Gave Me a Third of My Ummah"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
His saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
He gave me a third of my ummahأعطاني ثلث أمتي
?

Answer:
This refers to the ummah of response, those who responded to his call (peace and blessings be upon him) to save them from the Fire and deliver them from the Fire if they died upon his religion. Whoever dies upon a major sin is under His will.
Q: Does he intercede for all of them?
A: His intercession is for all of them; Allah promised him that He would give it to him for all of them.
Q: How do you reconcile this with the hadiths that a remainder will be left, and Allah will bring them out by His mercy?
A: He gave it to them with conditions. Those in whom the conditions are not met have no right to intercession. He gave him what he gave him with conditions: that they die upon Islam, and not die upon disbelief. Indeed, whoever departs from Islam is not of his ummah in reality... [they are of] the ummah of the call: like the Jews and the Christians and others, the ummah of the call.
Q: Does anyone from the ummah of response remain in the Fire? Do they remain in the Fire and then Allah brings them out?
A: This may be in the small amount that remains. The hadith is weak; this hadith is weak. The point is... intercession. Allah gave it to him and was pleased with him regarding them. The small amount that may remain and Allah brings them out, as mentioned in the authentic hadiths, does not deviate from this. The criterion is the majority and the most common case.
