Ruling on one who prayed 'Asr with a congregation while owing Zuhr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a traveler arrives and has delayed the prayer, then prays with the intention of 'Asr, leaving Zuhr upon him, is his prayer valid, or is it said that he must repeat it?

Answer:
The correct view is that he must repeat it: he prays Zuhr, then repeats 'Asr. However, if he prays with the people to gain the reward, it counts as a voluntary prayer for him, then he prays Zuhr, then he prays 'Asr. And if he prays Zuhr with them with the intention of Zuhr while they are praying 'Asr, it suffices according to the correct view. This was chosen by a group of scholars, such as al-Muqaddim and Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, and a group of others. He intends Zuhr while they are praying 'Asr, and when he finishes, he prays 'Asr.
Q: Here, the intention differed?
A: The difference in intention does no harm.
