The ruling on one who finds the people praying 'Asr while he has not yet prayed Zuhr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The following message was received by the program from the United Arab Emirates—Abu Dhabi—and its sender is the listener Ahmad Salem al-Hamid. My brother Ahmad has a number of questions, one of which says: If I enter the mosque and the congregation is praying 'Asr, and I have not yet prayed Zuhr, should I join the congregation with the intention of Zuhr? Or should I pray Zuhr alone and then catch up with the congregation? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The stronger view is that you should pray with them with the intention of Zuhr; this is the correct course. Then you pray 'Asr afterward. It does no harm that the intentions differ. So you enter with them and pray Zuhr with them with the intention of Zuhr, and when you are finished, you pray 'Asr alone or with whoever is available from the other congregation. This is the correct course. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. Likewise, in Ramadan, if I enter the mosque and the congregation is praying tarawih, and I have not yet prayed 'Isha', should I join them, or should I pray alone?

The Shaykh: If you pray alone, there is nothing wrong with it. And if you pray with them with the intention of the obligatory prayer, and when they finish you complete your prayer, there is nothing wrong with it. It is all fine. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
