What is the difference between miracles and karamahs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
How do we distinguish between a miracle and karamahs?
The original principle is that they are one; the karamah and the miracle are the extraordinary event. If it is in the nature of a challenge, as brought by the messengers, then it is called a miracle in terminology, and it is also called a karamah in meaning.
If it occurs through the hands of believers who are not among those who claimed messengership, but are rather followers of the messengers, then it is more specifically called a karamah, and it is also a miracle for the Prophet who came with what this believer is upon.
If it is not with the prophets or with the believers, then it is from the sorcery that the devils bring. Even if it is called an extraordinary event, in reality it is sorcery from the devil, and adornment and deception from the devil, so that people think that this person is a believer, or that this person is a prophet, when that is not the case.
Therefore, the scholars said, as mentioned earlier: the criterion is adherence to the Shari'ah. Whoever is committed to the Shari'ah and upright upon it, outwardly and inwardly, then whatever extraordinary events occur to him are karamahs. If he is not committed to it, then it is from the extraordinary events that the devils bring for their masters, to deceive people, or to fulfill the needs of their human allies, as sorcerers, fortune-tellers, and astrologers may do; it is deception from the devils and misleading of these people.
