The ruling on a woman who slept on her child and killed him while she was unaware

Question:
After this, a message was sent by the listener: Mus'ad Sa'id al-Qway'ani. Our brother is asking a collection of questions, and in one of them he says: I have a wife, and while she was nursing her child, Allah willed that she slept on him, and the child died. What is the obligatory expiation upon her? Knowing that she was unaware of it, as she was asleep. And is there any blame on the sleeper in such a case? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
If she knew that she was the cause, then the expiation is upon her, and the blood money is upon the 'asabah (the residuary male heirs), the closest then the next closest. If she knew that he died because of her sleeping on him, because she killed him by mistake, and in mistake there is an expiation and blood money. The blood money is upon the 'asabah (the residuary male heirs) and the expiation is upon her, which is freeing a believing slave. If she is unable to do that, then she fasts two consecutive months: sixty consecutive days. This is the expiation for accidental killing. Yes.
