How is the Duha prayer performed?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He asks you—may Allah preserve you—about the Duha prayer, its time, the number of its rak'ahs, how it is performed, and whether a person is required to recite specific surahs in it, or if any part of the Qur'an is acceptable?

Answer:
The Duha prayer is a recommended practice (sunnah) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) advised some of his Companions to perform, and he performed it on some occasions—(peace and blessings be upon him). He performed it on the Day of Conquest, praying eight rak'ahs of Duha on the Day of Conquest. Therefore, it is a confirmed recommended practice.
Its time is from when the sun rises the height of a spear until the sun stands still (reaches its zenith); the entire period of Duha is its time, from when the sun rises the height of a spear until the sun stands still before the midday prayer. If one prays it at the beginning of the time, or in the middle of it, he has hit the recommended practice. However, its best time is when the heat of Duha is intense, when the heat is severe and the young camels are scorched, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The prayer of those who are penitent is observed when your weaned camels feel the heat of the sun.صلاة الأوابين حين ترمض الفصال
Sahih Muslim 748a
meaning: when the heat of the scorching ground is intense on the young camels. So praying it in the height of Duha is better. And if one prays it after the sun has risen, he has obtained the recommended practice.
One should recite in it whatever surahs or verses are easy for him; there is nothing specific required. One recites in it whatever verses or surahs are easy for him.
Its minimum is two rak'ahs with one taslim. If one prays four, or six, or eight, or more, and says taslim after every two, all of it is good. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed it on the Day of Conquest; he prayed eight rak'ahs, saying taslim after every two—(peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.
